V. de Robillard of Mauritius ( from you once purchased some poor specimens of crustaceans & c) writes (Aug 8) that he has heard that you are always purchasing specimens of all kinds, and that he has sent you two cases of Fish skins, shells, echinoderms & crustaceans which he trusts will prove more satisfactory tham the other lot - he sets no price but leaves that with you. the boxes have reached N.Y. When they come Mrs. Howell & Lucas will decide on value and we will then write Robillard.
The Walrus, ^Bear,^ & casts were shipped Sept. 23 care of Cameron & Co
23 So. William St. N.Y. - insured for $ 425. & charged forward. They were to leave N.Y. about Oct. 10. Case to Prof. Parker was shipped at some time and leaves a few days later. 12 N. Hornaday has word that 2 cases of tiger skina are on way from Theobald for him. He will pay 1/2 charges and we 1/2 and divide skins equally. The Australian cases have reached Buffalo - freight to that point $58. - Clements bill of $288. (including $225. to Rev. Brown) has been paid. Scott sent note for $1,000. (dated Jan '81) for 1 1/2 years at 6%. and said that if he could not send check for balance (some $400.) in a couple days, would send note. This was about two weeks ago and we have heard nothing since. Dr. H. F. Jayne of Phila. has bought and paid for $350. of skeletons. Elias Lewis, Jr. (Prest. Brooklyn Bank) orders Va.
