and about 10 skins (Mr. Lucas is not here this afternoon and I have not counted the skins) We have not yet had time to examine the skins: shall box two at once and send to Schneider, and as soon as we have examined all will write Kanouse. He expects to leave his place this summer and take a trip over to the Pacific, and probably will not return. We have sent him a list of all mammals wanted from that region and he will make arrangements for procuring them.
Clements writes that one box had arrived at San Francisco and been forward freight prepaid. The other box either was left in New Zealand or was stolen. We wrote him to have every effort made to find it and if not successful we shall on receipt of other box make out bill against the Steamship Co. and send it to Clements for collection.
L. W. Morris (Express) wrote last week that there was a box a box in New York Custom House addressed to you, sent in his care. As there was no Consular or other invoice he wanted us to fill out and send to him an application for appraisement. Knowing of no
