My small sized encyclopedia was of too poor print, and
had a supplement, which was very unhandy.
Finding that I used it a great deal, I decided to have
a better one, so sold mine and purchased another. Costs above receipts for the old one. $5.00. Total $40. This is how may account stands ^$10. in Bank.^ I cannot say that I think I have acted unwisely in this. My other money has been spent partly in books, tools when necessary, and other things that I have to show for it. Some, of course, have been spent on amusements, which are, in a manner, necessaries.
Yes: you owe me just $25.00. You tell me to try and become influential and to
learn to speak readily. It is a difficult matter for one to
tell just how much influence he has. I will try and tell my
story by simply stating facts. I joined, last of early last year,
the Pi Phi, society (consisting of members of Academy), at the
first meeting I attended, the sargent - at - arms being absent, I was
appointed to occupy his place. Soon the treasurer was absent
and I was elected to fill his position. Then came around the
general election and they unanimously chose me for
President. Next experience was with R. F. A. Literary
Society. I was chairman of the committee on the Constitution
