as the Director apportioned the Survey appropri- ation, he would let me know whether he could offer me a place in his division .I certainly hope he may be well supplied, for a place there would probably pay expenses, and at the same time give me some opportunities to learn the methods of field work. However I have but little expectation that there will be anything for me..

I shall hope to get away soon after this matter

is settled, as I am becoming tired of being "cooped up" here. Have thought of going first to New Mexico and have written Marsh (Santa Fe) to inquire about the climate. I hope soon to be able to make some definite plans. Am gaining steadily in strength and weight, and my cough is becoming less and less troublesome. The Doctor considers me all right now if I take care of myself. He thinks the sooner I go west the better.

I will go at the review very soon, and will

have it for you within the ten days.

I trust that your N.Y. business has been satis-

factorily finished, and that your health is all right again - am sorry you have to spend the entire winter in this </u wretched> climate. Respectfully yours Arthur B. Baker
