nwh Syracuse, Jan. 19/83 Dear Prof. Ward,

       The doctor made another

examination on the 17th and found the progress satisfactory. The lung seems to have still far- ther improved; pulse and appetite are both better.

       He will not as yet consent to

my going back to begin work Mch. 1st, but says I may im- prove so rapidly that it will be safe to take up a little light work then. He is in favor of my going west in the spring, to remain till autumn - to lead a vigorous out- of - door life, with much exercise. I hope to see Dr. Ely in course of a few weeks and get his opinion on this point,
