Dear Prof. Ward,

Your letter of May 17th was

received a couple days ago. Ere this you will have received an explanation of the delay in sending your letters.

Hume's birds came several days ago; sent

draft for 15 pounds to Regent St. Branch & c. according to his directions, requesting them to notify him of its receipt. You will remember that on the list which he sent, he marked "the real value, that is what they cost me", which amounted to 11 pounds -1-6 (shillings?), and that you directed us to pay "with fair liberality". After looking over the skins (116 in number) we concluded that 15 pounds would be about right. We wrote him that we hoped soon to hear that the large (500 pounds) lot was on the way, and mentioned your having written him to send this instead of the 400 Pound lot. (in case your letter should have happened to miscarry.)

The Mt. Goat skins have all come. As

the last three bales seemed likely to reach here soon after the first, we thought it best not to decide upon the price till all were here. We have just been talking it over, but have not yet fully determined what to pay. As it is a matter of $500. we wish to consider it thoroughly. Will write again about it to- morrow.
