Dear Prof. Ward,

Mr. Barrows writes that has sent by sailing vessel two cases containing 450 bird-skins, several Opossum, Fox and Viscacha skins and skeletons of an Ostrich, small Deer, 2 Viscachas and several small birds. He enclosed bill of lading and thinks the vessel will reach New York about April 1st. Perhaps not till a month later. He intended to have sent them by steamer, but they were by mistake put on sailing vessel. Mr. Barrows had resigned his position at Conception del Uruguay and been appointed to a professorship in another college and was about starting on an expedition into the interior when he accidentally heard that the President had dismissed him on the ground of his not being a Catholic. He, however, goes on the expedition, which will occupy about 2 months, and expects soon after his return from it to start for New York - perhaps early in April. He thinks he would hardly want to come
