Dear Prof Ward -

     The pilot has just

come aboard and we will soon be at the town of Honolulu. The start from San Francisco was pretty rough and I was miserably sick for three or four days but feel better now. I was not in good condition when I went aboard and then the ac- comodations are not such as I like. I will live through this I think to take cabin passage here after. You know you wanted me to write what I thought of steerage. We have had 28 Chinamen aboard but they are to be put off here.
