English come to country some 20 years ago. They introduced immense changes in every thing. They made new hydraulic system, brought new crops. Built roads, built Railroads, put Steamers on River. Mails and Telegraphs through the country ^sanitation [illegible]^. Limited powers of the Khedival and suppressed a thousand Pashas Who were living off from the people, ^Turkish troops changed for native troops^. Now the Tellah walks upright and knows that he has justice. Never have I seen a country so changed. We know how England began this. How it took occasion of injuries of real or pretended to bombard Alexandria, fought battle of Tek-el-Keber [Tel-el-Kebir], Captured Arabi Pasha and took him off to Ceylon. All this was very high-handed and momentarily cruel. But today we have resurrected Egypt – where the great mass of the people are healthier, wealthier, wiser, happier, better in every way. Some have suffered evenly[cruelly?] at the outset, and at that time the Golden Rule seemed to be sadly stained. But now all has come around well, and the greatest good for the greatest number has been attained. But I must drop Entries.
