[another hand - </u Orton. > Au.g. 1856] I intend in a few weeks to leave for </u Andover Mass. > to enter the Middle Class of Theology. I have been studying Hebrew under Father. As the America Association for the Ad. of Science met in Albany the last of this month I think of attending as it is on my route. Several </u foreign donors > have promised to attend: I am </u itching > to see </u them >. Yes, Ward, don't think I have given up the idea of studying in Europe: I am more & more <./u set > on going. My plan now is to spend two years in Andover (graduating) then obtain a loan if I can (otherwise </u teach > till I get enough) & spend a year in Geneva & a year in Edinburgh. If my health is not good in Andover I mean to spend only </u a year > there & shift - as soon as possible Eastward. I am not anxious to commence preaching there </u six > years to come. I want to be "thoroughly furnished unto every good work." I have a great deal of studying & reading to do first. I hope the time will come when we can be </u associated > in some great & good cause. I would like the privilege of </u sitting at your feet. >
