Survey. He tells me that he is going to publish in connection with Prof. Hall, a Geological Map of the United States & Canada. Why does he tell me that the one lately published by Mr. Jules Marcon is a "very deficient thing", & why does Siliman's Journal stigmatize it as a "Geological Caricature"? I haven't in the last years bulletin of our society, together with an article of over 100 pages on the general geological features of America. I have read it with a great deal of interest, scarcely less because it gave me much new information about my country than on account of the earnestness of its author. I have seen him at Cambridge, but have never met him on this side of the water. His article is precisely the one which I should like to have written (or rather to have professed the necessary information to have written) above all others of which I know, Will there be anything left for me to do one of these days? Your remarks upon my description of "Sehel Nakons " encouraged me to rewrite ^it^ giving a more scientific description & explanation of the musical phenomenon - and to read it, in French, at a meeting of the Geological Society. It was well received, and produced some discussion - Mr. Barrande staking a case slightly parallel - often which the President requested it for publication with my sketch of the Mt. I will send you a copy with my box if you desire. [another hand- Henry A. Ward] [ybg]
