[page 2] what you would desire in these and use when possessed, and particularly whether you have thoroughly suitable halls for the purpose, and if not whether you will provide these at your own expense, perfectly fitted up with cases, in the event that Cabinets are presented to you. Can this latter be accomplished within about a twelve month? As to the Cabinets proposed I will only say now that Mr. ----'s purpose will be to have them cover the ground very fully, but without redundancy. While other Cabinets in the United States may be larger or more exhaustive in the illustration of specialties, or special sections of Nat. Science (e. g. the Meteorites at Amherst. Birds at Philadelphia or Shells at Cornell) he wishes that none shall excel yours in capacity for scientific illustration in the highest University instruction. Mr. ---- requests that for the present this proposed gift of his shall not be spoken of beyond the circle of your President and Trustees or others whom it may be important or necessary to consult. I trust your excellent judgement to so handle the matter that this last request shall be strictly carried out. Hoping to have the pleasure of having a letter from you soon, I remain. Yours very respectfully Hand change Henry A. Ward
