this Latitude, and if the weather continue for a few days as it is this morning, the canal will be temporarily closed by ice; but we seldom have here more than a week of cold weather at one time, And usually not more than two hard freezes during the winter. The water is never let off, from the canal, except in case of a break, And then only from a limited portion.
We will use every effort to have
the hall ready by the 1st Feb, next. And unless it should be unusually cold, see no reason now why it should not be ready by that time.
