You truly cannot condemn this move: for, you
remember, you have often tried to impress on my mind that health is more to be desired than a fine education.
At present, my studies at the Academy consist in, -
Composition of Rhetoric, "Scientific Drawing" (with instruments), Geometry, and Physiology.
My standing at the last examination (December) was
quite fair. We were examined in but two branches: popular opinion was that the examination was "tough". In Composition and Rhetoric I stood 82 1/2%, in Geometry 92%.
As Prof. Wills says that my character for "good behavior,
and general uprightness is exceptionally good", I think that I will get along at the Academy as well as might be expected.
I am still attending the Elocution class at Miss Hale's.
She says that I am improving greatly. It is very difficult for me to put any annimation into any ^facial^ expression; as I do not easily "enthuse". With Uncle Edd's acquiescence I am taking dancing lessons. At nearly every little social gathering I attended last winter there was dancing: acting the role of "wall-flower" is not very pleasant, there- -fore I am learning to "trip the light fantastic."
The expense will be $12. for two terms, at the end
of wi^t^ch time I will have learned all that is necessary to enable one to get along all right at any dance.
