nwh Left margin Different hand Henry Mar. "81 Rochester N. Y., Mar. 30 1881 Dear Father, -
We have not received news
of the arrival of your steamer, but going upon the principal that "no news is good news", we suppose that you are all right.
Mother has not come home yet, as she was
delayed in Georgia a week longer than she expected to be. Charles left a few days ago to "stay a month" in Lime Rock, working for Uncle Leonard Howell.
School work is pretty hard, extra hard right now,
but soon we get a week for vacation, so that we can brace up. I don't know just exactly how I started but as we have examinations for a week or more, comencing on Saturday; I will soon find, I hope not to my sorrow, right where I am.
I finish Natural Philosophy this term, and
take up Chemistry the first if May, the beginning of the last term.
The classes are so large that I don't
think there will be any chance for the scholars to do laboratory work; I am sorry for this as I think that I would greatly like to experiment myself.
