read over your order to some friends without giving names & they say they should understand that the thickness of the rabbets should be taken out. I will repeat the order to you that you may see how it sounds. "I wish 21 locks (cheap kind) for the Wilberforce University." The doors are 6 feet high & shut into against a rabbet top & bottom each 3/4 of an inch thick". Now does that not read in such a way as to imply that the thickness of the rabbets should be taken from the door. I want to have everything pleasant & correct & if you still think the mistake is mine why I will immediately remit the $3.00 & if it is a matter of doubt to both parties I will share it with you half & half. As I said before it is not so much the matter of the money as the point of the misunderstanding I have just recovered from the severest sickness I have had for 25 years or I should have promptly written you before. Shall hope to hear from you soon. I have tried to make this plain as possible but you know it is

much harder to write a thing than it is to tell it If I

could speak with you with a lock to show I think we could come to an understanding much easier I hope you will write your views freely as if there is a chance to make an order any plainer why I wish to get at the best way of doing it. I remain Yours very truly E. T. Jenk
