       My Dear Sir,
I have just recovered from my sickness

of about a month so as to be able to write you, & yours of the 16th is left before me. There seems to be a slight misunderstanding about the length of the wires of the Wilberforce Locks. I enclose a cut giving my idea of your letter. The length of the door is given 6 feet as shown by the ink marks. The door shuts into "(against)" a rabbet top & bottom each of which is 3/4 of an inch as shown Of course in that case the bolts shoot into the rabbets & when unlocked must come free of it or the door will not open Therefore if the door is 6 feet high and the rabbetts top & bottom each 3/4 of an inch deep the wires would have to be that much shorter as shown & in this case the wires would be 5ft 10 1/2 = long & each rabbet being /4in deep the two would be an 11/2 to take from the 6 foot door as I understand it which would make the wires come 5, 10 1/2 ln long & adding the thickness of both rabbets you have 6 feet as the height of the door Now I am not writing this for the matter of the 3.00 as I am trying to find our where the trouble is.
