My dear Professor:

                             Yours of the 21st is here. Really 

I don't know how I can make the situation any plainer. I said "Mr Carnegie </u presents > the Society $500." and that's what he does. The amt. is at my disposal whenever I choose to call or send for it. The only condition he made, which was no condition but merely an expressed </u wish, > was that I should have the principal management of affairs in place of Studer, by reason of my furnishing the money. There was no need for me to tell you of this because I will </u have > to do the bulk of the work whether I want to or not.. I would give $100. to be relieved of all care in the matter.

    The $500. is ours forever, and Mr. Carnegie
