Dear Prof Ward,
I enclose a letter from a young
man who is exceedingly anxious to come here and </u learn taxidermy. > He has been with Scott at Princeton for about 2 months, is a young man of the </u best > character, highly recommended by Dr Manigault and others, and is a thorough enthusiast on bird stuffing. Declares he will go through fire and water for the sake of learning the art </u well >. He is a good member of the S.A.T. and received a certificate of Merit for 15 birds at the Boston Exhibition . Don't think he would like to scrape bones </u because > he is as anxious to learn to stuff. Scott has been teaching him, and I think he must be able to mount birds pretty well by this time,
You see by his letter that he
will be willing to work 2 months without any pay, provided he is taught, and can earn his living after that. He is a poor fellow, and if you decide to let him come I may decide to let him live with me for almost nothing for a couple of months. He is a very moral young man, and as such he is badly needed here ! He has always written to me because I am "Sec. of the S.A.T."
