[page 4] the whole City is "broke" The people here are universally Grumblers from the bootblack & Chambermaid to the well-to-do Merchant the ? Lady, the Professor, Scholar Student Minister, Rabbi,Priest, Judge & Lawyer --- all are in Mining Stocks --- and all are caught in the great Collapse. It will take Several Months for the City to recover from this great depression and I think May will be quite time enough for you to arrive.

       You w have no difficulty

in obtaining a Suitable Hall in which to make your Exhibit I think the Mercantile Library Hall w be the most suitable & this Could be obtained at a moderate rent. How w you like to deliver a Course of Lectures to the Mercantile Library association on your Specialitis? An arrangement of this Kind might possibly be made & the Hall Cost you Nothing.

       Excuse this long letter

Truly yours Gilbert Clements
