[page 2] We can never be Sure of Good times in Cal till at least 16 inches of rain have fallen ----- we have had none yet _- Except one or two light Showers ---- this is favorable--- Early rains here indicate a dry season If the rain holds off till the end of next month & then comes in Earnest Say a fall of 8 or 10 inches it will give New life & tone to every interest of the Country.

on this coast we not only

depend on rain for our Crops but the Mining interests suffer greatly for want of water. I see in to-day's paper that at one Mining Camp over the Mountains water is Selling at a dollar a Gallon I believe you have decided to visit this City at the right time (January) and if we have Copious rains during November & December your venture Can Scarcely fail of complete success There will be no difficulty in your finding an Empty Store at a reasonable price for yr. Rxhibition, My impression is that a Small Public Hall w Serve yr.Purpose best. Yours Truly Gilbert Clements
