14th May 1881
Sir,
I have the honor to acknowledge receipt of your esteemed favor of the 8th instant, and to thank you for your kind proposals, and transmission of Photographs.
Since I addressed you first on the subject of your Collection (which at the time I had not had the pleasure of examining) I have made several purchases for the School, and fear at the present time to undertake [fresh?] responsibilities - therefore regretfully return the Photographs, copies of which I should have been very glad to have retained.
The Enclosed list of minerals perhaps you will be good enough to return with prices marked, at your convenience
I have the honor to be
Sir
Your most obedient Servant
WmBarnard, Registrar
