Dear Professor Ward,

The specimens addressed in yours of the 30th, were duly received, + were of present + a cursory examination has showed them to be in very good condition.

I very much fear, however, I cannot pay the pill this month. Our funds are very low, + in the of equipment for expeditions, I had made no allowance for skeletons, not expecting they would be ready for some months to come.

Our new building is now reopened, + will, I think, be ready for cases in the course of three or four months. Should we receive the hoped for increase of allowance for the maintenance of the new museum, I shall be able to call upon you more frequently for specimens.

Yours truly.

Spencer Baird
