nwh 14th May 1881 Sir,

       I have the honor to  acknowledge

receipt of your esteemed ? the 8 ?, and to thank you for your kind proposals, and Transmission of Photographs.

       Since I addressed you first

on the subject of your Collection (which at the time I had not had the pleasure of examining) I have made several purchases for the School, and fear at the present time to undertake fresh responsibilities - therefore regretfully return the Photographs, copies of which I should have been very glad to have retained.

       The enclosed list of minerals

perhaps you will be good enough to return with prices marked, at your convenience I have the honor to be Sir Your most obedient Servant ?? Barnard Registrar Professor H. A. Ward F. S. S.
