ybg Mariposa, P. O. Brackett, Box 56. Kinney Co. Texas, May 14th 86 Prof. H. A. Ward Sojourning in Mexico- Dear Sir: Yours of May 9th city of Mexico, I received today. Think of that, it used to take an ambulance with 4 good mules 22 to 25 days from Eagle Pass to the city of Mexico. The trip down the Pecos I should not recommend, it is to dangerous, shallows, rapids and every inconvenience possible would meet you. Pecos is a deep narrow ravine cut through the high ^some what mountainous^ table land, swift current and treacherous. But the formation is interesting. The only rocky range I recollect of a hard gypsum. The specimens referred to were found by G. L. Army officers, when under command of W. R. Shafter, Col. to L. A. the so-called Shafterroad was made a great improvement on the old El Pasoroad, but done away with by Locomotive. These shells (teeshes) were found in the Pecos mountains, that is to say where the road goes way down the ^rocky^ bluff to the water and up again on the other side
