nwh Sydney, Oct. 8th, 1883 Dear Friend Ward;

       Last mail brought no

news from you and Mr Dr K. who called a day or two ago makes the same report so we are at a loss to know whether that "Tooth- ache" has finished you or whether you are again off on a pilgrimage. I have noth- ing of importance to report. Williams has six or seven (6 or 7 L) pounds worth of Dingo's and other skeletons which I have instructed him to get ready - Stafford will have a small lot perhaps L 10. Peter's probably L 15 to 20 stg. - Bateman, as I wrote you before - The Brisbane people send no word - Kempapeer is getting along with the sharks - He has already twenty - and will likely have the full number you require this month - but I think he is getting sick of his job from the way he talks - my impression is that Sydney life is not benefitting him much - too easy hours and too much inde- pendence. Shall expect to hear from you by next mail sure. I enclose a menu of a/c to date - suppose the next lot (exclusive of Bolivian) will take another L 50. for all charges - including freight insurance etc _ but you will know better than I. I shall await instructions before shipping - With best wishes - I am sincerely Yours J. C. Oakman
