nwh Sydney, Aug. 8th /83 Dear Friend Ward.
Your letter of June 23rd
received Had been wondering what had become of
you for no letters came during the two months previ-
ous - and Stafford was very much exercised about
it he wrote to me several times to learn whether I
had any news of you or from you - I have written
both him and Peter to stop collecting and expected
to have a memorandum from them to send by this
mail and let you know about what there will be
to ship but ? no word from either has come yet
and it will now be too late for this mail. The L50.
did not come from Clements - conclude it was too late
for them to catch the mail - My impression is they
(Stafford & Peters) will have about L70 to L80 ? be_
worth between them while Bateman writes he has a
lot ready - I think without looking up his letter about
L60 worth - he is anxious to have me take what he
has ready as he goes on a two months trip starting Sept
1st - I wrote in regard to his lot before and hope to
hear by next mail what directions you have written
to him. I see De Kemposser frequently - he
will go on with the sharks according to your ler-
ter of instructions - He must be meeting with
very good success here as regards employment
