Sterling Montana, Aug 12th, 1884. Dear Professor,
You will find enclosed in this.-
duplicate receipt for 4 boxes of specimens, which my former letter advised you had been taken to Virginia City for shipment. Creighton & Co. by their agent Howell will ship them by lowest rate of freight to Franklin. the present R.R. shipping point on the Utah Northern road. - Creighton & Co. have an office at Franklin ^Idaho^ & do nearly all the shipping to & from Montana. If boxes are delayed they will be the persons to write to. Have written them to send you the railroad receipt. Where boxes start from Franklin; they will probably ship them to the care of the Redline. to whose cars they will be transferred at Omaha.
The Boxes are labeled & otherwise plainly
marked, and numbered 1,2,3, & 4. lists of the contents of each box are enclosed in this.
By examining the lists, you will see
that, with the exception of a portion of the file of Oddds & ends, everything contained in list of May 4th is shipped to you now. The 4 boxes made two loads., & I did not think it best to make a separated trip with the balance., thinking it would be better to wait & box them with what few specimens Rea. might get in the Bear line,:
