As to a loan ? I refer you to my first letter. ? bring $500.
independent of your ? money & when you get here, try to make
last you a year. I think you will succeed. I mentioned
in my last some books which i wished you to bring for me.
Please also bring me one or two of Your Scientific Americans,
& two more of your likenesses. If you should not come please
send these & Pres. Hopkins Baccalaureates by mail enveloped but
not covered (so as to pay letter postage). If you don't come please
answer my letter of July more fully. Once more, if you
come, bring me a good sized hunk of N. J. ? core (granular)
& some Beryls from your collection, & also when you are in N. B.
^visit^ go (if you have time) to the collection of Wm Olande Bourne
No. 13 Vandam St. & buy me one or two first rated (large)
specimens of serpentine with veins of Amianthus of
which he ^(at a price of from $2 to $5 each)^ has a quantity from N. Jersey. I wish these
minerals to exchange for a very extensive work on the
Siberian fossils of Bohemia. I fear I am troubling you
too much, Orton, but I will try to do as much for you.
Anticipate no difficulty at Harvee, neither in finding
me at Paris. I could give you whole sheets of directions
but they would not all probably be worth more than
this. viz. to come directly from Harve to Paris ^2nd class^ and (at that
latter city) seek me at the Hotel des Mines. No. 39 Rue
J.' Enfer. If I should be out they will give you my key & you will find
a large scientifc library at your disposal (!). But I must
close my letter hoping that it will get to America to late
to find you there. Yours sincerely.
H. A. Ward
P. S. Remember me with best regards to our old friend A. O. Clark.
