At least such is my experience past & expected. As to clothes you can buy them much cheaper here than in America ( I believe.) I think you have set your expenses rather high at $2000. for two years provided you are disposed to economy. You say "if I spend part of the time in Scotland & Germany." that would rather lessen the increase your expenses, at least the latter place. I think you are safe in starting with $500. as you propose. Your expenses at Paris will probably be from $30. to $40. per month for everything . This is </s in accordance > considering that I can aid you for some months at least in the manner of which I spoke in my last. As to raising a loan I can add nothing to what I then said. Consider it as quite possible but not certain. I think we shall need the little room which I mentioned as opening into mine. Bring your </u passport >. Bring me Agassiz Lake Superior. & Mitchell or other Atlas, Hitchcocks Geology & Prex. Hopkins ^last^ Baccalanratory & one on "It is more blessed to give than to receive." Study Allendorf on the way over. Write your name in your books as so not to pay </u duty. > Come in a steamer (2d class if she is not crowded) You will doubtless arrive in Havre with a port of lovely "Where's Woburn?" feeling but never mind that, come at once to Paris. If your baggage is checked leave it at the Depot & come at once to my room. Otherwise bring it with you. I said in my last to go to the other hotel because I thought you might make a better bargain here by the means . But never mind that. Try to arrive in the Day time ^say to^ </s & tell > the coachman. </u Allez a trente neuf Rue d'Enfer >. But I must close a letter most unsatisfactory to me because written badly & in haste. I have but ten minutes to go down to the Jardin des Plantes where I am taking private lessons in Geology of Mr. D Orbigny. With a full expectation if seeing you soon I remain Yours truly H. A. Ward
