Paris, Sept.20th 1855 My dear Orton,
I have just come from my Bankers
where I found ^your^ letter which has lain there for nearly ten days. I always thought you were rather laconic, Orton, but you should not let it run into your supers criptions so as to send a letter destined to </u H.A. Ward Care of Green & Co. Bankers Paris, France. > with the first & most essential member of the sentence </u entirely wanting. > Mr. Green opened the letter but soon found that it was not for him & therefore kept it until I should come & verify it. This accounts for the delay which I hope has not been felt by you in your needs </s as much than > as much as by me in my impatience. Your letter delighted me with its encouragement that I might so soon see your face. I can hardly believe the good news & shall not allow myself to think upon it too much lest I may be disapointed. I hasten to answer your inquiries in order to send by a 2d mail which fortunately leaves tomorrow.
It is </u perfectly > healthy in Paris & has been throughout
my whole stay there. Rue Hufer moreover is "a proverbially healthy situation" being like the Pantheon & School of Mines, on the highest ground on this side of the Seine.
