Will you please write by next Steamer. Do give me a little more advice; to may be your last from Europe. And if I am going this year I wish to know it, as soon as poss- ble, before I establish myself. Agreeable to your request I have Kept free all this winter; while I might have been teaching. If you </u travel > this summer, let me know </u immediately > if </u possible > I come over early so as to join you, which would </u per fectly > delight me. Lisle Broome Co. N.Y. Match 1st, 1856 My dear Ward

  I have this long

neglected your very kind letter of January last, solely because I did not know how to reply to it. I have not been able to tell you what are my aims and purposes during the coming dummer, nor do I know now. Last night I dreamed (would that such dreams were reflections of realities;) I discovered that a friend loaned me $1000. with which (of course)I hastened to Europe. But though it was only a dream. it seemed to remind me that I was in duty bound to answer your letter. and at least to disclose to you my feelings & condition. [vertically in left margin- Have I even sent you a schedule of our commencement?]
