[another hand - </u Orton > Nov. 1855] my birthright-,and mortgage my own freedom - to obtain funds to finish my studies in the land of savons. I have spoken to you before of the almost absolute necessity in my case of such a course. I have inherited a good constitution; but am unrelaxed, rigorous application to my studies for over seven years dremands a relaxation, - not in a </u cessation > from study, for that i could not endure, but in a </u change > of pursuit, which is as necessary to the </u [?] student > as rotation of crops is to the soil. I agree with you that my course of Science should precede my course of Theology. This order is important as you truly say, not only for my devotion to my profession, but for my devotions in it.
