ybg La, State University, BATON ROUGE, LA. </em Baton Rouge, La, > Aug't 26, 1876. Lof Pro. H. A, Ward, Rochester, N. Y. My Dear Sir:
I have not yet been
able to procure the books here - all of then = which I wished to trouble you to take to Genl Stone at Cairo, and I fear I can- not have them ready (in New York) in time for ^yr^ sailing. But I thank you more the less for your kind offer to take any pledge & I might wish to send.
I have not heard from Genl Stone
since I last wrote you, but I have as coming from some of Col. Lockett's fam- ily (in S. C. ) that he *(Lockett)^ has had a touch of sun-stroke in Abyssinia - which troubles me very much. What a pity if. the health of so admirable a man should be lost. in </u such > service ! Wishing you a pleasant & profitable trip
