Dear Sir. Having ascertained by postal cards that you are not very far from Rochester, not in Australia or New Zealand, I shall write you a rambling letter, in which you may find something of interest, if nothing valuable to you as a scientist. Since you called on me in Canandaigua, in 1876, we have exchanged occasional letters, one of which you found time to write from a foreign post.
