Nearing Liverpool, Rochester, N.Y. Feb 17 1880 Hon. Andrew D. White Berlin. Dear Sir, I have once more left my Rochester home for a short tour abroad,—this time to the South of Europe and—perhaps—to Algiers. I hope sometime in April to pass through Berlin in which case I shall do myself the great pleasure to make you a short call. Just now I wish to ask of you, Sir, the favor of a certain information. I have heard somewhere that there is to be in Berlin in the spring or early summer of this year a sort of Pisciculture Exposition, in which however Batrachian Reptiles &c will figure. Now I should like—if all circumstances are favorable,—to assist at such a display. But I do not know anything positive about it and, unfortunately, I shall // not be in Berlin in time to find out and then to ask. Will you then, Sir, kindly help me by letting one of your attachés make inquiries for me upon this subject and write me,—enclosing any documents on the subject which may be of service,— to me at Hôtel des Mines 125 Boulevard St Michel Paris, France. I hope to reach that city next Monday and to be there for 3 or 4 days (only) before going Southward, Thanking you in advance for the favor and begging to be remembered with most res- tectful regards to Mrs. White, I am, Sir, Yours respectfully Henry A. Ward I bear with me from Professor Baird of the Smithsonian a letter which will give me all appui, du Cote-Scientifique, that the Exposition Directors might require. H. A. W.
