nwh Rochester Sept. 30 "82 My dear Friend,
Although it is but a
few weeks since I saw you, I thought
I would write a few words to you.
I arrived safe at Rochester, meeting
with no accident on the way, except
the breaking of my keg of raspberry vinegar
& the consequent soaking of 1 or 2 of
my things. I found Mother & Sisters
at home, well, & glad to see me.
As Mother thought it very im-
prudent for me to go to the "West"
till frost or colder weather had
somewhat diminished the sickness
there, I concluded to put it off a
few weeks, & in the mean time busy
at myself with something that
would bring the dimes,
I at first spent 3 weeks at work on a
farm at Wyoming, where I enjoyed
myself well. I walked part of the way
