                                  Washington D.C. February 5th 1862

Dear Ward,

  I have solved the problem

in regard to your matter. MR Dunham Superinten- dent of that department came along the next day toward evening and seeing them in the Car, went at once to Gen. Meigs and Gen M. ordered them taken off and they are now, very near the place where you put them with your name and direction marked on them, I was told that the box would have been taken, but Mr. D, was not certain that it contained matter. So we may both set our heart, at rest now. I have spent a good deal of time hovering around the Freight Depot and still not think of going to those men who [guided ] us in the first place, or I might have known long ago.
