Dear Sir,

  I return the enclosed note, as

I am unable to learn anything of the person to whom you refer. The number of Mr. Smiths in Philad. is infinite.

  I feel well satisfied that the

Curators of the Academy would make no objection to having casts of certain fossils made for a proper equivalent, but our laws forbid the taking of specimens from the Academy, so that you would be required to make or have them made in or about the building. As we are very badly off for space, I think you would be obliged to creat a sort of temporary shed in the yard, in which the
