PREFACE.

IN compiling the following Catalogue, much use has been made of Agassiz's "Revision of the Echini," Lyman's "Ophiuridae and Astrophytidae," and Duncan's 'Revision of Genera and Great Groups of the Echinoidea," for the Echinodermata' Milne-Edward's "Corallaires" and numerous papers by Prof. A.E. Verrill, for the Coelenterata; and Hyatt's "Revision of North American Poriferae," his classification in the Standard Natural History, and works by Carter and Schmidt, for the Poriferata.
