Sept. 7, 1879 things to show how very unpleasant it is frequently
made for us here in your absence and how many things come up which not only give us the appearance of great stupidity, but are detrimental to your business. Some
time ago you said you should be greatly pressed during
Aug & Sept and this you repeated when I spoke of taking a fortnight's absence. But when in the middle of Aug. I asked to be informed of your plans so that I could if possible plan work to best advantage you replied - nothing - so that at this date I have not the least idea of what is going on this month except the Cambridge shipmen. How can you expect "waiting, watchful interest" from one who does not know what is going on? As I wrote you I have </S got > purchased a pair of very pretty napkin rings for H. we go on Tuesday night and I shall be back here Sunday. I could get back for Saturday but do not feel for like coming back so quickly and merely for one day's work at the very end of the week.
