Sterling, Montana Jan 13th 1879. Dear Professor Apr 16

    Your letter enclosing P.O.

Order for $25 came all right: I have credited the amount on a/c, which leaves bal of $108.00 yet unsettled. I would be glad to get you the Grizzlies you wish, but can do nothing toward it before next summer: whenever I see a chance to secure anything you need, will certainly do so. but am tied more closely at home than you seem to be: Good gracious! how you spin about over the face of this little geological two hemispheres. & where this letter will find you, I can't imagine: Have thought possible, it might be handed you some two months from this time, by some dirt eating postmaster on the Amazon.

"Mining Geologist" yes, thats good: but

I just wish I had less in mines, & was more of a geologist , - Ingersoll
