I will wager a ten- dollar note that not one of the parties would as officers ever heard of the institution before, except Mrs. Maxwell, and that if any meeting was held at all nobody was present but himself and Mrs Maxwell. The Society (?) will do no harm except- that by occasionally advertising him- self as Secretary he </s I > will induce a few green horns to send him specimens to enrich his own collection. Mrs Maxwell doubtless means well enough, but she will soon find she has been imposed upon.
