Sir,

I beg to acknowledge the receipt of your kind letter of the 4th, just out in reference to the question if the Blacks under my care could Collect some Platypus and other specimens of interest from Natural History etc. in answer of which I have to state that it is quite out of my favor to do so, as I am not able to get even a few specimens of the Platypus for the well known Dr. Owen in England although we have been looking out for them for several months. They are not be [found?]. I am very sorry not to be able to comply with your request.
