my dear Sir,
Neither the elk
skeleton, nor the antelope - I let you
have, were ever treated with any
kind of acid or alkali. no chemical
ever touched them while they were in
my hands. - I got them in the flesh,
macerated them in water from the Lake,
and put them in the sun light to bleach.
that is the only treatment they ever had.
I believe I have never cheated
you out of one cent, knowingly. all
the specimens I ever sent you you
were privileged to return if they did
not suit you, which you seem to
have always done. - The last lot you
got, you saw before we [traded?] and
if they did not suit you, you
ought not to have taken them, and
then turn on me and say "YouBoyd, H. W. Letter to Ward, Henry A. (1876-01-11)
are not nearly square enough
to suit me."
I send the Rhinoceros
skin by American Express. it will
go "Dead Head." - there is a small
hole in front of the large horn. he had
a sore spot on his nose. One hoof
is also ^partially^ loosened from the skin, it was
done trying to get out the [toe?].
The Skeleton I do not care to have
of any value to you. It is not for sale.
it is a fine one. - If you do not
care to keep the skin - you can
send it to ----- send it
by freight. If you choose to keep it
I would be satisfied with a mounted
lion skeleton.
What are you going to offer for
that Gorilla Skeleton? = I now have three
Antelope skeletons, two [Cyotus?], - 2 Bears, 2 Elks
and other small skeletons. they have just had
the flesh cut off, and have had no acid nor alkali
poured on them. do you want them?

Antelope skeletons in the rough and quite
[?]. If Gorilla skeleton is adult
male and only damaged as he states will
give him for it my fine adult
Dugong skeleton in the rough. Will
give my Orang with pair of hands
for Rhinoceros skin.
