New Orleans, Jan 17th 1881 Dear Mr Ward;

  I received yours

of the 12th inst. yesterday. I have had a great desire to meet you and regret very much the lost opportunity. I waited quite an hour for you at the hotel I suppose all of the time you were writing, but no one at hotel could direct me to you. My duties at the University take all of my time, so that I shall not have time to prepare the amphiuma myself. But they can be obtained, and I think I can get some one who will collect them for you
