The "Tortugos" or land Turtles being the principle exceptions. But as I found more territory in this vicinity, those I could satisfactorily examine, with the funds at my command, I have not tried to gather information in regard to them. S. sloop of War Nyas, who had recently spent several months there, in making surveys and soundings, gave me a very interesting account of his impressions there to. Though Natural history was not in his line. Since then I have read a very brief account of Prof. Agassiz's visit in the Hasler expedition. But if I recollect right, his stay there, was too short to determine much in relation to them.
