       I was gratified to receive

your letter this morning and delighted to learn that ? ^that^ a liberal citizen of another state contemplated so ? a donation to our University. That your faculty will be able to take charge and take care of the cabinet of natural history I do not doubt for a moment ---- That it will give a new impetus to that study, I also believe in an Institution which is fast taking a high place in the Universities of the world. Should such be the case as we hope the great result will be greatly due to the liberality of the donor. If Mr Jefferson could have foreseen this how grateful he would have been for the donation. Such incidents as these are well calculated to give heart & hope to the friends of this institution which is gaining friends so rapidly not only in this state but in the world at large.
