Dear Mr. Lucas,
I return list of bird skins, with a check against the names of those species we would like.
The Gaur Ox came last week. On unpacking we found the right side of body considerably rubbed on the most projecting part, the pads intended for its protection having slipped out of place. A little paint will, however, restore its pristine beauty!
Very truly yours,

Dear Mr. Lucas
The four boxes
of mounted specimens arrived today
in perfect order. Have approved
[the?] bill and turned it in for settlement.
I shall wish, however, to return
two specimens from this sending:
(1) Aguila naevia, which is a
duplicate of one sent nearly two
years ago, except that it is not
quite so good a specimen.
(2) Pratincola ferrea - a bad specimen.
Very [illegible] yours
J. A. Allen
