Dear Sir

Your form of the 16th came today - I send by Eastern Express the 2 Cats frozen hard. they ought to reach you in good order as it has been before Zero here except near norm for some days - Last year I had a large order for W. Cats Lynx - Fishers _ Beaver etc to fill and engaged lots to be brought in by My Fur collectors. This year I am not collecting, but one of my collectors brought these in, and I had to take them, and prefer to get cost rather than have them skinned - I sold all I collected last year at 3$ - here - so you will see these are cheap enough - I have some times had singular specimens in my Fur collections though not often fit to mount. Have had White. Muskrats. White. Otter. Cream colored Mink. Sable. (Pine Marten) orange yellow all over but the head - also almost white. Plenty of white & spotted Deer - Foxes of all colors from white to coal black

H. Stephens in Forth Company for instance, and to find that most of the descriptions in what pretend to be accurate descriptions in works of natural history, are mere fiction. They describe the animal accurately as seen dead or in captivity bur never take pains to observe the real animal or get any reliable information about them - Hurst's pictures I hope will do a good work. though his Beaver are wholy wrong - Please excuse this but I wish the habits of animals were better understood. Henry Augustus Ward Papers
A.W23
From 1862 to 1906, Ward’s Natural Science Establishment supplied specimens to natural science museums around the world. The goal of this project is to enable scientists, historians, and archivists to recreate Ward’s inventory by linking 19th century materials and documents at their institutions to the original catalogues, bulletins, and manuscripts.
Original line breaks, punctuation, abbreviations and spelling have been preserved
in the transcriptions and underlining and strikethroughs have been encoded.
Marginalia associated with a photograph or other ephemera has been transcribed
and associated with that object. Other marginalia is tagged "caption" at the
beginning of the relevant date's entry. Words or phrases deemed indecipherable
have been noted as "illegible." Nontextual original content, e.g. drawings and
diagrams, have been noted as such. Images of the original diary pages are
provided to show the creator’s original page layout and placement of
additions.

Dear Sir
In answer to your tome of 16th will say I will
get list of eggs made out (Mailing and a side ?
separate) and send you soon. The owner of this Coll
in N. Y. City was for some reason obliged to sell.
and a friend of men - F. L. Penber urged me so
to buy as he considered it such a bargain, but
to let him buy, and have added some to it - I care for
mounted birds more than for eggs and to get all
the birds of N.S. is enough for me. I expect Mr. Ana
soon and will send as soon as rec'd. The trouble
about L. Manus is not that it is rare, but is so
difficult to shoot, and comes so far that ex casts
as much as its bird - 3 $ would not say more than
pay costs if one comes all right. If one spoils I loose
it I expect to get P. Major but never promise what
I do not feel sure of - Rec'd a fine skin of P. Fugiliosus
from my friend Mr Brewster - also have had skins of King Eider
& Bann's Golden Eye but only for my own collection
I have nice fresh Canada Goose & Purple Sandpipers for
ex- would funish a quantity of lobster cheap in Ex
